What are good open, creative questions to ask when networking?

Having the confidence to network, whilst being authentic and staying connected can seem a bit daunting…

So what could be some good questions to have up your sleeve when you go to face to face or online creative networking events?

Let’s break it down…

  • An open question is one that aims to draw out an answer that in more than a yes, no or don’t know response. The key to asking your open question is having a genuine intention to connect and build rapport.

  • “Tell me more…” is a great way to encourage the person you are connecting with to open up and share more information with you. Use this is the person gives a short, sweet answer and you want them to open up more

  • Have the intention to help out each person you meet - even if this is being kind and open to a brief chat then moving on. Everyone who goes to a creative networking event will have nerves about it, regardless of how experienced they are.

  • Have a clear goal in mind for what you want to gain from the event - you are investing in yourself, and spending your time and energy to attend so be clear about your purpose and the outcomes you want.
