Using creative play to solve big world challenges…
Today is 21st April aka WORLD CREATIVITY & INNOVATION DAY...
This day has come into being to highlight the pivotal role of creativity and innovation in problem-solving and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
When humans come together in shared creative curiosity, exploration and playful enquiry the magic happens - the innovations, the quirky ways of tackling some of our most 'sticky' problems...
And even if this was not mind blowingly amazing the chance to come together, sit and talk whilst playing with materials gives us connection points and opportunities to open up whilst being creative and doing the making.
One highlight programme was collaborating with students, graduates and staff Liverpool Business School to uncover ways into the UN SDGs using creative expressive arts - much fun was have blending in quick fire 'pin up' mind mapping, collective drawing exercises and free flow hybrid hand made and digital making when pitching back big ideas in teams. So much fun!
I love blending in paper prototyping, collaging new vision boards or making something out of recycled materials in answer to open, coaching questions using my 'Bag of Creative Surprises' workshop toolkit.
Even the most cynical people I have worked alongside reconnect to something deeper within themselves when taking the leap of faith to give it a go. Feedback is often around how such simple tools can get folk talking so deeply about challenging issues so quickly, and so freely.
That's the magic of creative play. My role is to offer lots of ways in, guide each person to find their flow and stay present to ways that the group want to take their session.
All elements are super flexible, adaptable for any needs which opens up more people's lived experience around the tables where solutions for our shared futures come to life
As well as the fantastic chats, connections and new partnerships that come together from such magical moments.
WHERE DO YOU BRING YOUR CREATIVITY TO LIFE for more fun, hands on solution focused problem solving?
WHAT ARE YOUR GO TO TOOLS?
Let me know if you want to play some time!
