What potential barriers might there be to starting a creative coaching programme?

This is a GREAT question… and one that resonates with me, as although I have been coaching for over 13 years now it took me a while to figure out what kind of support suited me.

Creative coaching I found through a taster from the Cultural Leadership programme in 2009 resonated with the work I was doing on myself via therapy and the More To Life programme. I was blown away that the open questions, the active listening and reflective practice could aid me in coming up with creative ways to bust my blocks and move forward, much more sustainably.

One of the biggest lessons I have learnt is that seeking out and investing in the right support has been fundamental to me having the wealth of tools to now help my clients in the arts, cultural, education and digital spaces. Having that creative toolkit to lean into has helped me to stay motivated, creative and going when the going gets tough

KEY THOUGHTS ABOUT INVESTING IN COACHING I HEAR OFTEN…

  1. "I don't have the time": Your time is a valuable resource. However, investing time in personal growth and development can lead to greater efficiency and effectiveness in all areas of your life. By working with a coach, you can gain clarity, focus, and strategies to optimize your time and achieve your goals more efficiently.

  2. "I don't have the money": Financial concerns are common, and it’s really important to be honest about your reality. And it's important to consider the long-term benefits of investing in yourself. Working with a coach can help you unlock your potential, overcome obstacles, and achieve your desired outcomes. It's worth exploring different payment options, such as instalment plans or seeking financial support, to make coaching more accessible.

  3. "I know I need it but not right now": It's great that you recognise the value of coaching, even if you're not ready to commit at this moment. Keep in mind that the right time is when you feel ready to take action and make positive changes in your life. In the meantime, you can continue to explore resources like YouTube videos, podcasts, and books to gain knowledge and insights.

  4. "I can watch YouTube videos, listen to big-name coaches (Mel Robbins, Brene Brown, Oprah, Tony Robbins etc) on podcasts, and read books on coaching, creativity, and the brain": These resources are invaluable and can provide a wealth of information. However, working personally with your own coach 1-21 offers personalized guidance, accountability, and support tailored to your specific needs and goals. When you invest in a coaching programme just for you, you can help yourself apply the knowledge you gain from these resources and provide a structured framework for your accelerated growth.

  5. "I can do this for free via other coaches' intro deals": While introductory offers from other coaches can be enticing, it's important to consider the long-term value and commitment that comes with working with a coach. Building a relationship with a coach who understands your unique circumstances and goals can provide ongoing support and accountability, leading to sustainable growth and transformation.

  6. "I am not the decision maker in my household or business": If you're not the decision maker in your household or business, it's important to communicate the potential benefits of coaching to the decision maker. Highlight how coaching can enhance your skills, improve productivity, and contribute to the overall success of the business. Consider discussing the possibility with your partner and/or business partner about investing in coaching as a valuable personal and professional development opportunity.

  7. "I am already a coach myself" or "I've done a basic coaching course": That's fantastic! As a coach, you will already understand the value of continuous growth and development. Working with your own creative coach can provide you with fresh perspectives, advanced techniques, and specialised knowledge to take your own coaching skills to the next level. It's an opportunity to refine your approach, expand your own toolkit, and enhance your impact as a coach.
